Profile

Traditional values, progressive academics, and opportunities to explore and grow are what make a Knox School education unique and valuable in today’s global world. We are a co-educational day and boarding school nestled on 40 acres of Long Island’s North Shore.  Our pristine, waterfront property is home to a close-knit community of students and educators who affectionately refer to Knox as their “Home Beside the Shore.”  Founded in 1904 by Mary Alice Knox, The School is home to many rich traditions and a dynamic community unlike any other. In the tradition of great, "small" secondary boarding and day schools, every child is welcomed with open arms, and is known not just by name, but by personality traits, learning habits, likes and dislikes.

Each year, Knox welcomes close to 200 students and faculty from over 12 different countries to be a part of the Knox experience. Our mission is to provide the opportunity for capable students to excel within a liberal arts program infused with artistic and athletic pursuits, in preparation for higher education at selective colleges and universities. We provide challenging, engaging programs in a nurturing learning environment, and devote care and attention to every student. There simply is no "back row" at Knox.

Our college preparatory focus allows students to be challenged academically, athletically and artistically every day. From Advanced Placement offerings, to Visual and Performing Arts, to a 5 level “English as a Second Language” program to our Boost support program, Knox caters to every student’s individual needs. Through personal college counseling beginning sophomore year, our seniors enjoy 100% college acceptances to top-ranked colleges and universities. At Knox, we pride ourselves on preparing our students to be the future leaders of tomorrow.

Knox students are the most important part of our community and are an integral part of traditions that have been part of the Knox experience for more than a century. From the ringing of the Victory Bell after athletic contests, to the chanting sea of red and white during Team Choosing Night, to the Lantern Parade the night before graduation, The Knox School brings a whole new meaning to the term community. It is the students’ involvement in the life of Knox that gives them the unique opportunity to become active participants in their own academic, social and personal growth.

A warm, optimistic and dynamic community where everything we do is geared toward helping the individual to Learn to be Exceptional – this is The Knox School.
