Barrow Street Nursery School believes the early years are the most productive of a child's life and we challenge our students to excel in ways that fit their own unique development. We guide the critical first steps which lead to a life long enthusiasm for learning, appreciation of the arts, and care for the community and environment. While teaching the skills necessary for future academic success, we engage each child’s individual learning style by anchoring their day-to-day experiences.
Creativity and artistic expression are developed through individual exploration and group collaboration. Our curriculum provides children with the building blocks of knowledge, thinking and reasoning. We incorporate age-appropriate skills into content areas and progressively increase the level of difficulty as children master each set of skills. Social interaction, problem solving and language development are emphasized.
Barrow Street also believes a solid educational foundation includes learning about character and the community. We reinforce the belief that education promotes responsibility and develops character. Beginning with our youngest students, we reinforce respect, responsibility, honesty, and kindness and actively engage members of the community through school-wide service learning projects and classroom activities to ensure harmonious continuity between each child's home and school life.

NYSAIS Athletic Association
The mission of New York State interscholastic athletic programs is to foster the quest for excellence by creating an educational and competitive experience within an atmosphere of sportsmanship. Successful programs develop individual and team potential by promoting high standards of competence, character, civility, and citizenship.
All good schools continually evaluate their performance by means of their own devising. Without evaluation an institution ossifies, and in a changing world it loses its meaning for society. But the view a school takes of itself needs periodically to be supplemented by an external view, one that brings a perspective the school cannot command.
