“How will I fill the time?”
“How will I get it all done?”
Even teachers with experience ask themselves these conflicting
questions, but new teachers often need extra quidance in planning the
early days of school. With a “skills and tools” approach, the
school year can begin with plenty on the agenda. From the first days,
school feels focused and stimulating, and by practicing vital skills
early on, teachers and students save time all year long.
Teachers will leave this workshop with an individualized list of
activities and projects to include in their planning of first few weeks
of school. Starting your year with the list in hand will reassure
you that you’ve got plenty to do, and that it will be purposeful, meaty
and well thought-out.
Important: This workshop requires minor preparation.
A list of universally useful ideas for the first weeks of school will
be provided to all participants. However, most of the workshop
time will be spent developing ideas to support each teacher’s unique
needs. Therefore, it’s important to come to this workshop
prepared with the following:
- Basic knowledge of the scope and sequence of each curriculum area
you will teach this year. If you are new to teaching or to a
grade level and your knowledge of details is limited, just be sure you
have a sense of what your students will study, and in what timeframe.
- Any planning documents or standards you are responsible for applying to curriculum you develop.
If you have a question or are unsure about your preparation for this workshop, please contact the speaker in advance at shoshanadina@nyc.rr.com.
