Asynchronous Learning and the Online Environment: Lessons from 2e Educators

Nicole Cavaliere, Lisa Marfleet, Nancy Tarshis and Emily Vizza,
Quad Preparatory School

Continuous learning platforms require tremendous flexibility and adaptation as we engage with students online. But this new environment also presents significant opportunities for deep differentiation, personalization, and family engagement.

The Quad Preparatory School, a NYSAIS provisional member serving twice-exceptional K-12 students, has been providing their fully academic and clinical services online since March 12. In this session, faculty and staff will share concrete strategies and observations relevant to all school settings on how to leverage the opportunities this new environment affords.

Emily Vizza received her Master of Science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from New York University. She holds certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and New York State licensure in speech-language pathology, and obtained New York State Teacher Certification in Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD)

Lisa Marfleet's background is in the arts and education with over 25 years experience as an educational consultant focusing on curriculum design and the talent development needs of students from a wide variety of educational backgrounds. Lisa has a particular interest in the high school to college transition and all aspects of post secondary planning to help bridge the gap between school and the "real world".space">

Nancy Tarshis is a speech-language pathologist and special educator with extensive experience working with children and their parents. For 27 years, she was a member of the professional team at the Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, serving as Supervisor of Speech and Language Services for 21 of them.

Nicole Cavaliere received her Master of Education in Elementary Education and has a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design Education from Pratt Institute. She joined The Quad Preparatory School in 2016 as a STEM Head Teacher. Nicole is currently the Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Talent Development and will serve as the Interim Lower School Director of Academics next year.
