Life with or after COVID-19: How will we approach schooling in the fall?

One thing is for sure, COVID-19 will have an effect on when and how we return to school in the fall. In fact, it's the one unfortunate reality that will unite all schools, public or independent, secular or nonsecular, day or boarding, N-12 in most parts of the United States, if not the world.
This presentation is intended to provide Heads of School with an appreciation for, and working knowledge of, the steps necessary to ensure a safe opening of school in the fall, whether initially on line or in classrooms. Participants will hear and discuss how to accommodate continued calls for social distancing and the changes required in the areas of
- food service
- class and whole schedule management
- co-curricular and athletic offerings
- arrival and dismissal
- teaching practices
- ongoing use of technology
Dr. Thomas M Kelly is completing his 15th year as the Head at Horace Mann School, where he also teaches courses in psychology and ethics in the Upper Division. Prior to Horace Mann School, Dr. Kelly served as a Director of Special Education, High School Principal and Superintendent in an array of public school settings. Before transitioning full time to education, Dr. Kelly was the Director of children's psychiatric hospital in New York State and has hand on experience with managing contagions in both school and residential settings. As a former member of NYSAIS' accreditation commission and a visiting chair of several accrediting teams, Dr. Kelly has a deep understanding of and appreciation for how our schools work.
