Dear Samara and Juliet:
Hoping you two are doing well.  Can we post this flyer for an event for DEI professional to POCIS's list-serve?  Here is the language I just used for the NYSIS list (you probably saw?) in case you need some text...thank you and let me know if there's anything else I can do!
Rebecca
Colleagues:

It's October -- and hiring season will be in full swing before we know it -- please hold Saturday November 23rd from 10am-2pm if you are interested in joining us at Spence for a hiring-specific workshop on implicit bias.

The Perception Institute (with Rachel Godsil and Chap) will lead participant DEI professionals through a training that will prepare us to prepare others to work more strategically toward equity and excellence in hiring.

Train the Trainers: Promoting Equity and Excellence in Hiring

Saturday November 23, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

The Spence School, Lecture Hall (7th Flr)

Perception Institute: Rachel Godsil & Sandra (Chap) Chapman

Why

Many of us know about the good research done on implicit bias and with this knowledge, we seek to bring to our schools the aspirations of ensuring equitable hiring practices. Yet we frequently experience roadblocks to equity during the hiring season. From outreach to contract, things still go sideways and the candidates our schools hire can continue to represent the dominant identities already present in the schools. Together we will explore pitfalls and challenges that arise on the road through hiring season, in conversation with other DEI professionals from around NYC, and then design a plan of guardrails, interventions, and checkpoints for greater equity in hiring.

What

In this workshop, The Perception Institute will lead participants through a training that will prepare us to prepare others to work more strategically toward equity and excellence in hiring. The facilitators will first delineate key challenges -- implicit biases, identity anxieties, stereotype threat -- that exist in hiring for historically marginalized candidates and then provide a foundation for us to work in our school communities. We will provide pre-reading for content knowledge and a power-point deck Ion-site for you to personalize which is research-based and can serve as a tool to use prior to the hiring season. In addition we will develop a set of “scripts” to counter the moments of tension in order for us to re-align with your school’s mission and our goal of Promoting Equity and Excellence in Hiring.
