Teach21 Free Summer Workshop: They \ˈt͟hā\ (singular pronoun): Integrating Gender and Sexuality Education Throughout the Curriculum

Date: Tuesday - June 16, 2020
Time: 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM
This summer, educators will be able to join Teach21 from anywhere! We have moved our professional development program online and are pleased to offer all workshops for free this summer, in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Check out the offerings at Teach21 Virtual Summer Session! All workshops are taught by School at Columbia University faculty and staff.

How do children K-8 learn to value and have pride in their own identities as well as respecting those of others? It begins in the home and the classroom and emanates into the world. As educators in truly diverse communities, we must understand that intersectional dialogues surrounding equity and liberation, for all people, are crucial in fostering growth and inspiring action in youth and in ourselves. In this workshop, we intend to share integrated unit plans, stand alone activities, and ideas for educators to create a culture of acceptance and learning as they explore and understand topics related to gender and sexuality. We will look at ways in which GSS topics may be integrated into literacy, math, science and technology, social studies, and social emotional learning. Through an intersectional and multifaceted approach, in regards to many areas of inequity, participants will leave the workshop with knowledge, resources and ideas of their own to use as they support, protect, inspire, and motivate their students and broader school community.
