Teach21 Free Summer Workshop: Mentoring Associate and Assistant Teachers - Guiding New Teachers Towards Their Career in Education

Date: Tuesday - June 09, 2020
This summer, educators will be able to join Teach21 from anywhere! We have moved our professional development program online and are pleased to offer all workshops for free this summer, in response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Check out the offerings at Teach21 Virtual Summer Session! All workshops are taught by School at Columbia University faculty and staff.
How can we best support young teachers preparing for a career in education? How can we best grow the next generation of teachers? How do we continue our ongoing support to teachers remotely as part of a distance learning program? In this workshop we will delve into supportive practices for mentoring associate/assistant teachers in our school communities, including adaptations of these practices during remote learning. We will share about the Associate Teaching Program at The School, and discuss common challenges and specific strategies for supportive mentorship. Participants will leave with resources for supporting new or associate teachers in their contexts, including plans for associate professional development, graphic organizers for planning and problem solving, and talk moves for mentor-led conferencing with associate teachers.

Instructor: Harry Banks
