NYSAIS Teaching with Technology (TWT19) Conference

Please mark your calendar now to attend the NYSAIS Teaching With Technology Conference, to be held on Monday, April 22, 2019, at Léman Manhattan. The conference will consist of four bands of concurrent, one-hour workshops throughout the day.

This year, we are excited to welcome academic technologists and integrators as session presenters in addition to classroom teachers. In recent years, as technology has become ubiquitous and deeply embedded in everything we do in schools, the concept of "teaching with technology" has grown from the wonderful ideas and how-to's we've heard about in years past to a much larger umbrella topic, encompassing many higher-level considerations for pedagogy, school philosophy, and school culture.
We now must think about not just the practice, but the implications of teaching with technology:
  • How is it changing our culture? Student behavior?
  • What modes of learning has it enabled, and what new challenges has it introduced?
The intention of soliciting presentation topics from teachers as well as technologists and integrators is to curate a day of sessions that will more broadly explore how we can achieve a better balance of the gains and challenges of teaching with technology in our schools.

Classroom teachers, teaching technologists, integrators and technologists are encouraged to submit proposals.  If the proposal is accepted, presenters and co-presenters (maximum of 3 total) may attend the conference at no charge.

Important Dates

  • Call for Proposals: December 12, 2018
  • Proposal deadline: February 10, 2019
  • NYSAIS responds to proposals: mid February 2019
  • Course catalog published and registration opens: March 1, 2019.

Alex Ragone transforms schools by empowering students, teachers, and parents to solve authentic problems in their communities and beyond. He brings 20 years of experience leading and teaching in independent schools in New York City. Most recently, Alex was founding Head of School at AltSchool Union Square where he built a learning culture where students developed agency through deep project-based learning arcs and took responsibility for creating a positive and supportive learning community. Before AltSchool, Alex worked at City and Country School as their director of the middle and upper school where he defined systems to create curricular consistency throughout the program.

Alex is a regular speaker at national and regional conferences. He served on the NAIS Innovation Task Force, chaired various NYSAIS conference planning committees, and worked on a number of school accreditation teams. Alex holds a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Media from Teachers College and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Washington University.

The NYSAIS Education and Information Technology Committee.

Volume discounts available.

Presenters: you do not need to register for the conference, but do select the workshops you plan to attend. Do not select the workshop you are presenting, but DO select the others you will be attending.

The fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and all materials.

Regular Registration Fees apply within 2 weeks of the event.

  • NYSAIS members - $125.00
  • Non-members - $170.00

Early Discount of $15.00 will apply until 2 weeks before the event.

Late Fee of $10.00 will apply within 2 days of the event.

Bulk pricing available for groups of at least 5 applying is a single transaction.
